I have a cold. Must be the holiday season.
I spent Christmas Eve camped out on my couch with my cold, watching costume dramas and Battlestar Galactica. Which later mixed with the cold medicine, and led to dreams of Edward James Olmos wearing a corset being rescued by Katee Sackhoff in knee breeches.
Katee Sackhoff in knee breeches= hot. Edward James Olmos in a corset= not so much.
Speaking of costume dramas, Toph gave me a Choose Your Own Jane Austen Adventure book. It's hysterical, and, in my opinion, adheres to the snarky nature of Jane Austen's commentary on marriage and social station quite well.
I picked up A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. And just... wow. It's not deep and meaningful reading, but it is great storytelling. It hits some of my reading kinks: Victorian setting, female protagonist, struggle to break free from the constraints of society, an undercurrent of sexuality.
I also recently finished Atonement by Ian McEwan. I cried. Flat out SOBBED. And not for the obvious reasons. I suppose this one hit some of my reading kinks as well: an undercurrent of sexuality, a subtly dark tone, long, lush paragraphs.
